Schiler and Associates is a small firm providing consulting in natural lighting and lighting. We specialize in computer simulation of buildings, new or existing, and provide analysis and design advice based on our experience and on a range of computer programs suited to particular situations. We have analyzed buildings over several years, considering building form, function, skin, orientation, scheduling, lighting and daylighting.

We have done a broad range of building types, but have specialized in situations where natural lighting is present, and coordination is desired. This results in superior quality lighting, and also considerable energy savings due to daylight harvesting. An understanding of the complex interactions between natural light, solar position, lighting controls, thermal loading and building equipment is necessary. We have developed this area of expertise over 18 years.

Marc Schiler, principal of Schiler and Associates, is a tenured Full Professor in the School of Architecture at the University of Southern California. He teaches computer simulation, energy analysis and lighting design at undergraduate and graduate levels.
