Equipment

Schiler and Associates currently uses a network of four computers, all Wintel platforms, special video capture cards, cameras, other sensing devices and various pieces of normal office equipment. Additional temperature, luminance, illuminance and data logging equipment are provided for periods of 1 month or less. Long term, in situ monitoring projects require the purchase of permanently placed monitoring equipment.

Software

Lighting design photometrics are simulated with Lightscape, LumenMicro by Lighting Technologies or Luxicon software by Cooper Lighting Industries. Genesys, SpauldCAD, and other programs are avaailable upon request. IES standard programs and templates are available on disk and CD-ROM.

Energy calculations have been done using VisDOE or the ACROSOFT version of DOE2.1E which will run with extended DOS and BDLKEY adjustments allowing an AA/AI file of 100k. This means that the normal limits to the number of zones, surfaces and windows may be exceeded as necessary.

We also have other versions of DOE available in-house, such as CECDOE, the California Energy Commission's own version. We also have Superlite versions I and II, along with Superin, Microlite, Daylit, Solar 5, and others. Indeed, Prof. Schiler has been involved in writing several sections of computer code for special purposes, or inclusion in existing programs. One of our past projects was the connection of Superlite to DOE as a more accurate preprocessor of natural lighting.

We maintain extensive weather data files for over 20 areas in California (including all CTZ's), and an additional 125 typical cities in the United States and Europe.

Our library includes many catalogues and the IES and Sweet's lighting libraries on CD-ROM format.
